What does this fault code mean?
The auxiliary sensor in the gear position sensor has registered a value that is too high. The sensor in the transmission control module receives the selector position through a cable. The fault is due to the position needing adjustment or an internal fault in the control module, and it can cause harsh gear changes.
Possible causes
- The gear position sensor position (offset) needs adjusting
- Internal fault inside the TCM
What you can do
- 1Have a workshop check that the selector cable is correctly adjusted before any part is replaced
- 2If you have a diagnostic tool: read the selector position in live data and see whether it follows the lever as it moves
- 3Clear the fault code and road test to see whether it returns
- 4If the code returns after calibration, have a workshop replace the transmission control module
Symptoms you may notice3
- The general warning lamp is lit
- The malfunction indicator lamp is lit
- Harsh gear changes
What the fault can affect1
- The control module emergency program Emergency Mode 4 is activated
