What does this fault code mean?
The control module has registered that the gear position is incorrect. The gear position sensor sits in the control module and gives information about the selected gear. The fault is due either to the sensor being misadjusted or to an internal fault in the control module, which can stop the engine from starting or cause gear changes to fail.
Possible causes
- Misadjusted gear position sensor
- Internal fault inside the TCM
What you can do
- 1If you have a diagnostic tool: move the selector through all positions and check that the position in live data matches the display
- 2Have a workshop check the selector cable and calibrate the gear position sensor
- 3If the fault remains, have a workshop replace the control module, since a new module is supplied without software
- 4After replacement, a workshop should program the control module and check that gear changes work
Symptoms you may notice3
- The engine does not start
- Gear changes do not occur
- Harsh gear changes
What the fault can affect2
- The control module uses a basic value for adaptation
- Stored fault codes may be lost
