What does this fault code mean?

Shift fork 3 moves away from the N position without the transmission control module (TCM) having requested it. The cause may be a hydraulic fault or a damaged position sensor, and both can be in the mechatronic unit.

    Possible causes

    • Fault in the hydraulic system
    • Damaged position sensor

    What you can do

    1. 1Read out the fault codes from the transmission control module again to see whether the fault is in the transmission or in the mechatronic unit
    2. 2If you have diagnostic equipment, check the position value for shift fork 3 in live data while the selector is in N
    3. 3A workshop should replace the mechatronic unit, since both possible faults are located there; then road test and check the code

    Symptoms you may notice4

    • Text window with yellow warning symbol and message
    • No forward or reverse movement with a gear selected
    • Shifts occur too early, too late or too often, sometimes or all the time
    • Gear changes take too long to complete, sometimes or all the time

General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
