What does this fault code mean?
Shift fork 4 has moved away from the N position without the transmission control module (TCM) having requested any movement. The cause is either the hydraulic system or the position sensor, and both can be in the mechatronic unit.
Possible causes
- Fault in the hydraulic system
- Damaged position sensor
What you can do
- 1Read out the fault codes from the transmission control module and deal first with any codes that may share the same cause
- 2If you have diagnostic equipment, check in live data whether the position value for shift fork 4 changes when the selector is in N
- 3Both fault sources can be in the mechatronic unit, so a workshop should replace it, road test the car and then read out whether the fault code remains
Symptoms you may notice5
- Check engine light comes on or behaves abnormally
- Message with yellow warning symbol in the display
- No forward or reverse movement with a gear selected
- Shifts occur too early, too late or too often, sometimes or all the time
- Gear changes take too long to complete, sometimes or all the time
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
