What does this fault code mean?
The transmission control module (TCM) has found that one clutch fails to open. The transmission has two clutches, clutch 1 for odd gears and clutch 2 for even gears, and the control module opens a clutch by releasing its pressure. The fault may come from a missing or incorrect signal from the engine control module or from a damaged clutch unit.
Possible causes
- Signal from the engine control module is missing or incorrect
- Damaged clutch unit
What you can do
- 1Read out the fault codes from both the transmission and engine control modules and check whether fault code TCM-04A2 is set; trace it if so
- 2Check the engine control module first, since a missing or incorrect engine signal can cause this code
- 3If no fault is found in the engine control module, the clutch unit may be damaged and a workshop should replace it
- 4Fault-tracing may also show a fault in the transmission, in which case the transmission must be replaced; have a workshop do this
Symptoms you may notice5
- Text window with yellow warning symbol and message
- No forward or reverse movement with a gear selected
- Gears shift hard or jerky, sometimes or all the time
- No automatic gear changes
- Gear changes take too long to complete, sometimes or all the time
