What does this fault code mean?
The input shaft speed sensor for odd gears, which measures speed for gears 1, 3, 5 and reverse, is damaged. The transmission control module (TCM) therefore gets no usable speed signal from it. The sensor's signal is also used to check the other two speed sensors.
Possible causes
- Damaged sensor
- Damaged connector or dirty circuit board at the sensor
What you can do
- 1Read out the fault codes from the transmission control module. If several speed sensors show faults, the cause may instead lie in the control module
- 2Check the connector at the sensor for the odd gears: see whether it is secure, clean and free from damage
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the wire to the sensor has no contact with ground (the car body)
- 4If the fault is inside the control module, it must be replaced; a new module is delivered without software and must be programmed by a workshop
- 5Clear the fault code and road test to see whether it returns
Symptoms you may notice5
- Yellow warning symbol and message in the display
- No forward or reverse movement with a gear selected
- Gears shift hard or jerky, sometimes or all the time
- Gear changes take too long to complete, sometimes or all the time
- Shifts occur too early, too late or too often, sometimes or all the time
