What does this fault code mean?
The input shaft speed sensor for even gears, which is part of the mechatronic unit, gives a signal outside the permitted range for the selected gear. The sensor value is used for shifting, to work out vehicle speed and to check the transmission's hydraulic and mechanical function.
Possible causes
- Damaged sensor
What you can do
- 1Read out the fault codes from the transmission control module. If several speed sensors show faults, the cause may instead lie in the control module
- 2If you have diagnostic equipment, compare the input shaft speed for even gears with that for odd gears in live data while the car is rolling and see whether it deviates
- 3The sensor is part of the mechatronic unit, so if the sensor is at fault the mechatronic unit must be replaced, which a workshop should do
- 4If the fault is inside the control module, it must be replaced; a new module is delivered without software and must be programmed by a workshop
Symptoms you may notice5
- Text window with yellow warning symbol and message
- No automatic gear changes
- Gear changes take too long to complete, sometimes or all the time
- Gears shift hard or jerky, sometimes or all the time
- Shifts occur too early, too late or too often, sometimes or all the time
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
