What does this fault code mean?
The incoming speed sensor, which sits at the clutch, gives a signal that deviates from the engine speed. The TCM takes its engine speed reading from the engine control module over the CAN bus and compares it with the sensor signal. The sensor signal is also used to check the other two speed sensors.
Possible causes
- The incoming speed sensor is not working
What you can do
- 1Read out the fault codes from the transmission control module. If several speed sensors show faults, the cause may instead lie in the control module
- 2If you have diagnostic equipment, compare the incoming speed value in live data with the engine speed while the engine is running and see whether they match
- 3The incoming speed sensor must be replaced, which a workshop should do
- 4If the fault is inside the control module, it must be replaced; a new module is delivered without software and must be programmed by a workshop
Symptoms you may notice2
- No automatic gear changes
- No forward or reverse movement with a gear selected
