What does this fault code mean?
The gear position sensor, which sits in the transmission control module (TCM), receives incorrect signals from two of its Hall sensors. The sensor tells the control module which position the gear selector is in: P, R, N or D.
Possible causes
- Damaged gear position sensor
- Connector or cable is damaged
What you can do
- 1Make sure the selector cable is correctly fitted. If it needs adjusting, a workshop should do this
- 2Look for damage to the connector and wiring at the gear selector and the gear position sensor, such as chafing or loose connectors
- 3If you have diagnostic equipment, move the selector lever through all positions several times with the ignition on and check that the selected position matches what is shown in live data
- 4If the fault remains, a workshop must replace the mechatronic unit, and the new control module must be programmed after the replacement
Symptoms you may notice3
- Text window with yellow warning symbol and message
- No forward or reverse movement with a gear selected
- The key cannot be removed from the ignition lock
