What does this fault code mean?

The transmission control module (TCM) compares the configuration data that the central electronic module (CEM) sends on the CAN network with its own configuration. The fault code is set when the module finds that the data is incorrect. The cause lies in the transmission's own software.

What you can do

1Read the fault codes, note TCM-04A4 and clear it. Drive the car and read again to see whether the code comes back
2Switch the ignition off and leave it off until the gear selector lamps have gone out. Then switch the ignition on and read the fault code once more
3Have a workshop reload the transmission software with diagnostic equipment, since this is a software update and not something you can do yourself
4If the fault code remains after the reload, the fault may be inside the module. Have a workshop check and replace the transmission control module
