What does this fault code mean?
One of the transmission's three power stages, power stage 1, is not working correctly. The power stage controls, among others, the solenoids LPS, SHSS2 and SHCMS in the transmission. The control module detects the fault by comparing the output current and voltage with the fed-back values, and the fault is caused by a damaged power stage or a damaged control module.
Possible causes
- Damaged power stage
- Damaged transmission control module (TCM)
What you can do
- 1Read the fault codes in the central electronic module (CEM). If any of them point to too little voltage reaching the transmission control module, fix that first
- 2Inspect the connectors and wiring between the transmission control module and the CEM for corrosion and loose connections. Reseat the connectors properly after checking
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the wiring between the modules has no open circuits
- 4Have a workshop check the power stage with diagnostic equipment. If the fault is in the control module, it must be replaced
Symptoms you may notice4
- Malfunction Indicator Light (check engine) lit or behaving abnormally
- Yellow warning symbol and text message in the display
- No automatic gear changes
- No forward or reverse movement with a gear selected
What the fault can affect1
- The two other power stages can take over the function, but the transmission's function may be severely reduced depending on which power stage is damaged
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
