What does this fault code mean?
The system pressure solenoid LPS, which regulates the transmission's system pressure, has an open circuit. The solenoids sit in the transmission's mechatronic unit and control the hydraulics, including cooling of components and clutch pressure. The fault is caused by a damaged or dirty connector or circuit board, a damaged solenoid, or a damaged transmission control module.
Possible causes
- Connector or circuit board damaged or dirty
- Damaged solenoid
- Damaged transmission control module (TCM)
What you can do
- 1Read the fault codes, clear TCM-0550 and drive the car to see whether it comes back
- 2Have a workshop open the transmission control system and inspect the solenoid and its contacts for corrosion, poor contact, dirt or metal build-up
- 3Have a workshop check the transmission oil level
- 4If the fault cannot be fixed, the mechatronic unit must be replaced. This is a job for a workshop
Symptoms you may notice4
- Malfunction Indicator Light (check engine) lit or behaving abnormally
- Shifts hard or jerky
- Unusual noise from the transmission
- High idle speed
