What does this fault code mean?
The measured current through the main pressure solenoid LPS is higher than the requested current. The solenoid sits in the transmission's mechatronic unit and regulates the transmission's system pressure. The cause is a damaged or dirty connector or circuit board, a damaged solenoid, or a damaged transmission control module.
Possible causes
- Connector or circuit board damaged or dirty
- Damaged solenoid
- Damaged transmission control module (TCM)
What you can do
- 1Read the fault codes, clear TCM-0553 and drive the car to see whether it comes back
- 2Have a workshop open the transmission control system and check the solenoid for corrosion, poor contact, dirt or metal build-up. Check the oil level too
- 3If the fault cannot be found or fixed, have a workshop replace the mechatronic unit
Symptoms you may notice5
- Malfunction Indicator Light (check engine) lit or behaving abnormally
- Yellow warning symbol and text message in the display
- The car may feel weak or lack power when pulling away from a standstill
- Shifts hard or jerky
- Hesitates or surges while driving, or runs with a jerky feel
