What does this fault code mean?
Solenoid SHSS1, which controls the shifts for the odd gears, has an open circuit. The solenoid sits in the transmission's mechatronic unit, where the solenoids also control the shift forks so that the correct gear is engaged. The fault is caused by a damaged or dirty connector or circuit board, a damaged solenoid, or a damaged transmission control module.
Possible causes
- Connector or circuit board damaged or dirty
- Damaged solenoid
- Damaged transmission control module (TCM)
What you can do
- 1Read the fault codes, clear TCM-0580 and drive the car to see whether it returns
- 2Have a workshop open the transmission control system and inspect solenoid SHSS1 and its contacts for oxidation, dirt and metal deposits
- 3Have a workshop check the transmission oil level
- 4If the fault was found and fixed, the mechatronic unit can be refitted. Otherwise a workshop must replace it
Symptoms you may notice5
- Malfunction Indicator Light (check engine) lit or behaving abnormally
- Yellow warning symbol and text message in the display
- Shifts hard or jerky
- No forward or reverse movement with a gear selected
- Shifts too early, too late or too often
