What does this fault code mean?

The output stage for solenoid SHSS1, which controls the shifts for the odd gears, is shorted to ground. The solenoid sits in the transmission's mechatronic unit. The fault is caused by a damaged or dirty connector or circuit board, a damaged solenoid, or a damaged transmission control module.

    Possible causes

    • Connector or circuit board damaged or dirty
    • Damaged solenoid
    • Damaged transmission control module (TCM)

    What you can do

    1. 1Read the fault codes, clear TCM-0582 and drive the car with gear changes to see whether it returns
    2. 2Have a workshop open the transmission control system and check solenoid SHSS1 and its wiring visually
    3. 3If the fault was found and fixed, the mechatronic unit can be refitted. Otherwise a workshop must replace it

    Symptoms you may notice5

    • Malfunction Indicator Light (check engine) lit or behaving abnormally
    • Yellow warning symbol and text message in the display
    • Shifts hard or jerky
    • Shifts too early, too late or too often
    • No forward or reverse movement with a gear selected

General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
