What does this fault code mean?
Although the code is described as even gears, the fault concerns solenoid CSMS1, which controls the cooling flow over the clutch for the odd gears and decides whether valve CSM1 routes the pressure to shifting or to the clutch. The solenoid has an open circuit. The cause is a damaged solenoid, a damaged or dirty connector or circuit board, or a damaged control module in the transmission.
Possible causes
- Damaged solenoid
- Connector or circuit board damaged or dirty
- Damaged transmission control module (TCM)
What you can do
- 1Read the fault codes, clear TCM-05C0 and drive the car to see whether it returns
- 2Have a workshop open the transmission control system and inspect solenoid CSMS1 and its contacts for corrosion, poor contact, dirt or metal build-up
- 3Have a workshop check the transmission oil level
- 4If the fault cannot be found or fixed, a workshop must replace the mechatronic unit
Symptoms you may notice5
- Malfunction Indicator Light (check engine) lit or behaving abnormally
- Yellow warning symbol and text message in the display
- Shifts hard or jerky
- No automatic gear changes
- No forward or reverse movement with a gear selected
