What does this fault code mean?
The transmission control module receives no rpm reading from the engine control module (ECM) over CAN, or the reading is faulty. The signal is used to check the transmission's lock-up function. The cause may lie in the central electronic module, in the engine control module, or in a CAN wire that breaks or shorts now and then.
Possible causes
- Fault in the central electronic module (CEM)
- Fault in the engine control module (ECM)
- A CAN wire that is intermittently broken or shorted, linking the engine module to the transmission module
What you can do
- 1Start by reading the fault codes in the CEM and the engine control module and fixing any that are present
- 2Do not clear TCM-0A30 until the fault codes in the CEM and the engine control module have been fixed and cleared
- 3If no fault codes are stored, have a workshop trace the CAN network with diagnostic equipment
- 4Clear TCM-0A30 once everything is fixed and drive the car to see whether it returns
Symptoms you may notice4
- General warning lamp lit
- Shifts hard or jerky
- Gear changes do not happen
- The lock-up function does not work
What the fault can affect3
- The transmission runs an auxiliary program
- The neutral control function is blocked
- The lock-up function is blocked
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
