What does this fault code mean?

As far as the transmission control module is concerned, the left front wheel sensor input is missing or faulty. The wheel sensor gives the brake control module (BCM) the wheel's rotational speed, and the BCM passes the vehicle speed on to the transmission over CAN. Because this code is stored, the fault points to the brake control module, so the fault tracing should start there. The transmission uses a basic value for the signal in the meantime.

    Possible causes

    • The fault lies in the brake control module (BCM)
    • A CAN wire that is intermittently broken or shorted, linking the brake module to the transmission module
    • Damaged wheel sensor

    What you can do

    1. 1Read the fault codes in the CEM and the brake control module, and fix them first. Do not clear TCM-C003100 until the root fault is fixed and its fault code is cleared
    2. 2Have a workshop trace the brake control module and the left front wheel sensor with diagnostic equipment
    3. 3Drive the car once the fault codes are fixed and see whether the code returns
    4. 4The brake system is safety-critical. If you suspect a fault, have a workshop check it

    Symptoms you may notice1

    • No noticeable symptoms for the driver

    What the fault can affect1

    • The transmission control module (TCM) uses a basic value for the signal

General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
