What does this fault code mean?
The transmission control module and the gear selector module (GSM) communicate over the LIN wire, and the signal from the gear selector is faulty. The cause is interference on the LIN wire, very fast intermittent short circuits or breaks on it, or the wire being shorted to supply voltage or ground.
Possible causes
- Electrical noise on the LIN wire running between the gear selector and the transmission control module
- Very fast intermittent short circuits or breaks on the LIN wire between the gear selector module and the control module
- The LIN wire shorted to supply voltage or ground
What you can do
- 1With a diagnostic tool, read the winter program (W) status while pressing the switch in and out. It should change. If not, the fault is probably permanent
- 2Have a workshop check the LIN wire for short circuits and breaks with diagnostic equipment
- 3If the fault remains and the wire shows nothing, the gear selector circuit board may be faulty. Have a workshop try replacing it
Symptoms you may notice2
- General warning lamp lit
- Gear selector indicator not working
What the fault can affect2
- Manual mode (MAN) is disabled
- Winter mode (W) is disabled
