What does this fault code mean?

The data exchanged over the LIN wire with the gear selector module (GSM) contains errors, and the signal from the gear selector is too high or too low. The cause may be interference on the wire, fast intermittent short circuits or breaks, or a short to supply voltage or ground.

    Possible causes

    • Electrical noise on the LIN wire running between the gear selector and the transmission control module
    • Very fast intermittent shorts or breaks on the LIN wire to the gear selector
    • The LIN wire shorted to supply voltage or ground

    What you can do

    1. 1If you have a diagnostic tool, read the status of the winter program selector (W) and press the switch in and out. The status should change
    2. 2Have a workshop check the LIN wire for intermittent short circuits and breaks
    3. 3If the fault remains and the wire shows nothing, the gear selector circuit board may be faulty. Have a workshop try a new one

    Symptoms you may notice2

    • General warning lamp lit
    • Gear selector indicator does not function

    What the fault can affect2

    • Manual mode (MAN) is disabled
    • Winter mode (W) is disabled

General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
