What does this fault code mean?
The transmission module (TCM) checks its configuration ID against the signal the central electronic control module (CEM) puts on the CAN network. The code is set when the IDs differ, or when communication with the CEM is interrupted. It can appear after a module has been replaced without the right software being downloaded.
Possible causes
- Wrong CAN configuration ID, for example when the transmission control module is not intended for the car, as with a used module with different software or hardware
- Open circuit in the CAN wires between the transmission control module and the central electronic control module (CEM)
What you can do
- 1Has the transmission control module been replaced recently? It may then lack the correct software for the car; have a workshop check this
- 2Read the fault codes in all control modules and check whether any other module has communication faults
- 3With the ignition off, check that the connectors at the transmission control module and the CEM are fully engaged and free from oxidation
- 4Use a multimeter to check that the CAN wires are not shorted to ground or supply voltage
- 5Have a workshop download the correct software to the transmission control module and replace it as a last resort if the fault remains
Symptoms you may notice2
- General warning lamp on
- Missed gear changes
What the fault can affect1
- The control module switches to an emergency program
