What does this fault code mean?
Although the code is named after the brake booster pressure sensor, it concerns the speed signal from the brake control module (BCM), which the transmission control module receives over the CAN network. The code is set when the signal is missing or invalid. This points to a fault in the brake control module or in the CAN wire between it and the transmission.
Possible causes
- Break or short on the CAN wire running between the BCM and the transmission module, which may come and go
- Fault in the brake control module (BCM)
What you can do
- 1Start by reading the fault codes in the CEM and the BCM, and fix those first
- 2Clear the fault code and road test the car to see whether it comes back
- 3With the ignition off, check the CAN wire between the brake control module and the transmission control module for breaks, chafing and loose connectors
- 4If you have diagnostic equipment, follow the speed signal in live data during a road test and check that it updates smoothly
- 5Do not work on the brake system or the brake control module (BCM) yourself; have a workshop carry out the troubleshooting there
Symptoms you may notice1
- No noticeable symptoms for the driver
What the fault can affect2
- The transmission control module uses a default value for the signal instead of the real speed
- Neutral control is blocked
