What does this fault code mean?
The transmission control module receives and checks the signals from the cruise control buttons on the steering wheel. The signal comes from the engine control module (ECM) over the CAN network. The code is set when the signal from the engine control module is missing or flagged as incorrect, and the cruise control is then switched off. This points to a fault in the engine control module or in the CAN wire between it and the transmission.
Possible causes
- Fault in the engine control module (ECM), which sends the signal
- Open circuit or short circuit on the CAN wire between the engine control module and the transmission control module, which may come and go
What you can do
- 1Read the fault codes in the engine control module (ECM) and the central electronic control module (CEM) and fix them first; clear the code for the cause once it is fixed
- 2With the ignition off, check the CAN wire between the engine and the transmission for open circuits, chafing and loose connectors
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the CAN wires are not shorted to ground or supply voltage
- 4If you have diagnostic equipment, press the cruise control buttons and see in live data whether the signal changes
- 5Have a workshop troubleshoot the CAN network and the engine control module with diagnostic equipment, since the troubleshooting should start there
Symptoms you may notice2
- The cruise control cannot be switched on
- The cruise control does not hold the set speed or switches off
What the fault can affect1
- The cruise control is switched off while the fault is active
