What does this fault code mean?
This is an event-driven information code, and it does not point to a fault in the module where it is active. The transmission control module keeps checking the speed signals and the gearbox output speed, and during braking it checks that they agree. If a fault is found, the gearbox is disconnected into neutral, so that a wrong or locked gear cannot occur.
Possible causes
- Break or short on the CAN wire running between the BCM and the transmission module, which may come and go
- Damaged output speed sensor
- Damaged wheel sensor
- Internal fault in the transmission control module
What you can do
- 1Read the fault codes in the brake control module (BCM) and fix them first; then clear the fault code
- 2With the ignition off, check the CAN wire between the brake control module and the transmission control module for breaks, chafing and loose connectors
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the CAN wire is not shorted to ground or supply voltage
- 4Have a workshop check the output speed sensor and wheel sensors with diagnostic equipment, as they are part of the fault check
- 5Do not work on the brake system or the wheel sensors yourself; have a workshop carry out the troubleshooting there
Symptoms you may notice1
- The automatic gearbox shifts harshly or jerkily
What the fault can affect1
- The gearbox is disconnected into neutral
