What does this fault code mean?
Although the code is named a programming fault, it concerns a memory fault in the permanent memory (EEPROM) where fault codes and adaptation values are stored. The fault may be a software fault or an internal fault in the transmission control module, and the shifts can then go wrong or stop.
Possible causes
- Software fault in the transmission control module
- Internal fault in the transmission control module
What you can do
- 1Clear the fault code and road test the car to see whether it comes back
- 2Have a workshop reprogram the transmission control module with the software that is right for the car
- 3Have a workshop replace the transmission control module if the fault remains; a new module must be programmed
Symptoms you may notice5
- Shifts too early, too late or too often
- No automatic shifting
- The car lacks power
- The engine does not start
- No movement forwards or backwards in gear
What the fault can affect1
- The transmission control module restarts itself
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
