What does this fault code mean?
The gear selector position, meaning P, R, N or D, is read by a range sensor inside the transmission control module. The module has registered an incorrect signal from that sensor. The fault may be a misadjusted selector cable or an internal fault in the module. The engine may then fail to start and shifting is affected.
Possible causes
- Misadjusted gear range sensor
- Internal fault in the transmission control module
What you can do
- 1Move the selector several times to all positions and check that the position shown in the display matches the one selected
- 2If you have diagnostic equipment, read the selector position in live data; if it shows undefined in P, R, N or D, the cable is wrong
- 3Troubleshoot other fault codes in the transmission control module first, then clear this code
- 4Have a workshop adjust the selector cable and calibrate the range sensor if needed
- 5Have a workshop replace the transmission control module if the code remains after adjustment and calibration
