What does this fault code mean?
The transmission control module (TCM) receives a signal from the oil temperature sensor that is too high, so it cannot read a realistic oil temperature. Functions controlled by the oil temperature, such as the torque converter lock-up, may be blocked, and gear changes can become harsh or jerky.
Possible causes
- Higher resistance at a connection
- Signal cable short-circuited to supply voltage
- Oil temperature sensor faulty or not working
What you can do
- 1Read and clear the code, then road test the car to see whether it returns
- 2Check that the connector at the oil temperature sensor is fully engaged and free from corrosion
- 3With a multimeter, check that the signal cable has no voltage when the ignition is on and the sensor connector is disconnected
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool: read the oil temperature in live data with the engine idling and check that it rises as the transmission warms up
- 5If the sensor or cable is damaged, replace or repair it and clear the code; if the fault remains, have a workshop check the control module

- Emissions warning lamp (MIL) comes on
- The general warning lamp comes on
- Yellow warning symbol and text message in the display
- Gear changes are harsh or jerky

- Lock-up is blocked, including the slip lock-up
- The neutral check is blocked
