What does this fault code mean?
Although the code is named inside or outside tolerance, it applies to a signal from the input shaft speed sensor that is incorrect at higher speeds. The control module then compares the speed with the vehicle speed and the engine speed, and the comparison does not agree, which can reduce gear change control.
Possible causes
- Higher resistance at a connection
- Input shaft speed sensor not seated correctly
- Speed sensor not working
What you can do
- 1Read and clear the code, then road test to see whether it returns at higher speed
- 2If you have a diagnostic tool: compare input speed with engine speed in live data during a test drive in a higher gear
- 3Have a workshop check that the sensor is seated correctly and that the connector is clean and secure, since the sensor is inside the transmission
- 4If the fault remains after these checks, have a workshop replace the sensor and clear the code
Symptoms you may notice4
- The emissions warning lamp (MIL) and the general warning lamp come on
- Lock-up does not work
- Gear changes are harsh, jerky or do not happen
- The car may feel underpowered
What the fault can affect1
- The transmission is controlled by an auxiliary program
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
