What does this fault code mean?
The fault is intermittent, meaning it came and went: the signal from the input speed sensor was missing at some point, but it may not be present right now. Without the signal the control module cannot control gear changes and lock-up correctly, which can cause harsh or missing gear changes.
Possible causes
- Higher resistance at a connection
- Input speed sensor not seated correctly
- Input speed sensor not working
What you can do
- 1Read and clear the code, then road test the car to see whether it returns
- 2If you have a diagnostic tool: read the input speed in live data with the engine running and check that the value updates when the engine speed is raised
- 3If the fault returns often, have a workshop check the sensor connector and wiring, since the sensor sits inside the transmission
- 4If the sensor or the control system is damaged, have a workshop replace it
Symptoms you may notice5
- The emissions warning lamp (MIL) and the general warning lamp come on
- Lock-up does not work
- Gear changes are harsh or jerky
- Gear changes do not happen
- The car may feel underpowered
