What does this fault code mean?
The transmission is mechanically in neutral even though the selector has been moved to a driving position. The control module therefore cannot engage the gear as it should, and the fault is an internal fault in the transmission.
Possible causes
- Internal fault in the transmission
What you can do
- 1Read and clear the code, then road test the car in D to see whether it returns
- 2Have a workshop check the transmission fluid level and condition, since the level depends on the fluid temperature
- 3Have a workshop check the solenoid connectors and the wiring inside the transmission
- 4If no fault is found in the connectors or wiring, the transmission needs replacing, which a workshop will assess
Symptoms you may notice4
- Red text message and warning symbol in the display
- The emissions warning lamp (MIL) and the general warning lamp come on
- No automatic gear change, and gear changes take a long time
- Lock-up does not work
