What does this fault code mean?
First gear is not engaging correctly inside the transmission: the ratio differs from the expected one because a component appears to be stuck. Brake B2 is not applied, so engine braking in first gear is not possible. The fault may be caused by a solenoid that is stuck or by a mechanical fault in the transmission.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance or poor contact in the connectors to the linear pressure solenoids or the shift solenoid
- A linear pressure solenoid has stuck, or the shift solenoid has stuck in the off or on position
- One or more of the solenoids is damaged
- A fault inside the TCM or its control system
- Mechanical faults in the transmission
What you can do
- 1First read all codes: if any other transmission code is present, deal with it first, since it may be the root fault
- 2Clear the code and road test the car in first gear with engine braking to see whether it returns
- 3Have a workshop check the solenoid connectors, wiring and the solenoids themselves, since they sit inside the transmission
- 4If the fault remains, have a workshop look at the transmission's mechanics and check the control module
Symptoms you may notice5
- No automatic gear change
- No forward or reverse movement in gear
- Gear changes happen too early, too late or too often
- Gear changes take a long time
- Gear changes are harsh or jerky
What the fault can affect2
- Adaptation function is blocked
- Engine braking in first gear is not possible
