What does this fault code mean?
The transmission control module (TCM) has recorded that the ratio in 3rd gear deviates too much from the expected value. This may be caused by a solenoid that is not regulating correctly, a contact problem in the solenoid's connector, or worn parts causing slip and low system pressure.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance or poor contact in a solenoid connector
- A solenoid regulating incorrectly
- Worn parts in the transmission causing slip or low system pressure
What you can do
- 1Read and clear the code, then road test the car in third gear to see whether it returns
- 2If you have a diagnostic tool: activate the solenoids that belong to 3rd gear in the tool's test and check that each one gives a click
- 3Check the fluid quality and level if the car allows it; dark or burnt fluid should be changed by a workshop
- 4If the fluid and solenoids are sound, have a workshop look into the transmission's mechanics
Symptoms you may notice5
- The emissions warning lamp (MIL) comes on
- Gear changes become abnormally slipping
- Gear changes are harsh, or do not happen at all
- Yellow warning symbol and text message in the display
- The malfunction indicator lamp (Check engine) comes on or behaves abnormally

- Adaptation function is blocked
- Automatic engine start/stop is switched off
