What does this fault code mean?
The transmission is mechanically in neutral even though the selector is in D or R, and the ratio for reverse deviates. The fault may come from an internal fault in the transmission control system, wear in the transmission causing slip or low system pressure, or an internal fault in the transmission itself.
Possible causes
- Internal fault in the transmission control system
- Mechanical fault in the transmission: worn components causing slip or low system pressure
- Internal fault in the transmission
What you can do
- 1Read and clear the code, then road test with the selector in D and R to see whether it returns
- 2If you have a diagnostic tool: activate the solenoids for D and R in the tool's test and check that they click
- 3Have a workshop check the transmission fluid quality and level, since the level depends on the fluid temperature
- 4If the solenoids are sound, have a workshop check the control module and the transmission's mechanics
Symptoms you may notice5
- The emissions warning lamp (MIL) and the general warning lamp come on
- Gear changes do not happen
- Gear changes take a long time on upshifts and downshifts
- Gear changes happen too early, too late or too often, including from park to reverse or D
- Gear changes are harsh or jerky
What the fault can affect1
- The transmission is controlled by an auxiliary program
