What does this fault code mean?
Reverse cannot be engaged because the control module has blocked it, due to a fault that could damage the transmission if driving or shifting continued. The code is event-driven and usually shows a temporary disturbance, especially in new cars or transmissions whose parts have not yet bedded in.
Possible causes
- Damaged valve
- Electrical fault not yet detected
- Hydraulic fault not yet detected
- Damaged shift mechanism
What you can do
- 1Read and clear the code, then road test in reverse to see whether it returns
- 2If it does not return, it was most likely a temporary disturbance and no action is needed
- 3If it returns often, consider how many miles the car has covered and how often the fault shows, and tell the workshop
- 4If the fault remains, have a workshop check the valve, the hydraulics and the shift mechanism
