What does this fault code mean?
1st gear cannot be selected because the control module has blocked it. A fault has occurred that could damage the transmission if driving or shifting continued. The code is event-driven and usually shows a temporary disturbance, not a permanent fault in the transmission.
Possible causes
- Damaged valve
- Electrical fault not yet detected
- Hydraulic fault not yet detected
- Damaged shift mechanism
What you can do
- 1Read and clear the code, then road test the car to see whether 1st gear engages again
- 2If the fault does not return, it was most likely a temporary disturbance and no action is needed
- 3If it returns often, consider how long the car has been driven and how often the fault shows, then have a workshop decide whether anything more is needed
- 4If the fault remains, have a workshop check the valve and the shift mechanism
