What does this fault code mean?
The lock-up solenoid is not working as it should. The control module compares the road speed reading with the engine speed, the values do not agree, and the lock-up clutch slips or is not engaged when it should be. The fault concerns the solenoid's function.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance in the connections
- Break in the control signal wire or in the signal ground
- Solenoid not working
- Solenoid stuck in the closed position
- A fault inside the TCM itself
What you can do
- 1Have a workshop check the transmission fluid quality and level, and change the fluid if it smells burnt
- 2Read and clear the code, then road test to see whether lock-up works as it should
- 3Have a workshop check the wiring between the transmission and the solenoid for breaks and shorts, since it sits inside the transmission
- 4If the wiring and connector are sound, have a workshop replace the solenoid or check the control module
Symptoms you may notice5
- General warning lamp comes on
- Emissions warning lamp (MIL) comes on
- Gear changes are harsh
- Gear changes do not happen
- Gear changes are abnormally slipping
