What does this fault code mean?
The lock-up clutch appears to be engaged all the time, or the transmission jerks when lock-up engages. The fault concerns the solenoid that controls the clutch, which has stuck in the on position.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance or poor contact in the solenoid connector or wiring
- Lock-up solenoid stuck in the open position or damaged
- Solenoid not working
- Poor fluid quality
- Fault inside the transmission control module (TCM) or its control system
- Mechanical faults in the transmission
What you can do
- 1Read and clear the code, then road test to see whether lock-up engages and releases as it should
- 2Have a workshop check the transmission fluid quality and level; change the fluid if it smells burnt
- 3Have a workshop check the wiring between the transmission and the solenoid for breaks and shorts, and the solenoid itself
- 4If the fault remains, have a workshop replace the solenoid or check the control module
Symptoms you may notice5
- The engine stalls when the car slows down
- Gear changes are harsh or lock-up is jerky
- The emissions warning lamp (MIL) and the general warning lamp come on
- Gear changes do not happen
- Gear changes are abnormally slipping

- Neutral check is blocked
- Automatic engine start/stop is switched off
