What does this fault code mean?
The code is event-driven, meaning an information code. Fifth gear gives a ratio that is close to that of another gear even though it is selected, and the code does not point to a fault in the control module where it is active.
Possible causes
- Fault in the solenoid circuit for 5th gear
- Damaged or worn clutch
- Poor fluid quality
- Mechanical faults in the transmission
- Contact resistance or poor contact in the connectors to the linear pressure solenoids
What you can do
- 1Start by checking whether there are other transmission fault codes, since they may be the root fault
- 2Clear the code and road test in fifth gear to see whether it returns
- 3If it returns often, tell the workshop how often it happens so they can decide whether the clutch or the oil needs checking
Symptoms you may notice4
- Harsh or jerky gear changes
- No automatic gear change
- Gear changes take a long time
- No manual gear change
What the fault can affect3
- Adaptation function is blocked
- Neutral check is blocked
- The transmission selects a safe gear and holds it for a while before a new one can be requested
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
