What does this fault code mean?

6th gear cannot be engaged properly, because its ratio is close to that of another gear even though the control module has selected 6th. The cause may be a solenoid stuck in the off or on position, a damaged valve or shift mechanism, or a fault that has not yet been detected.

    Possible causes

    • Contact resistance, or a solenoid stuck in the off or on position
    • Mechanical faults in the transmission
    • Damaged valve
    • Damaged shift mechanism
    • An electrical fault not yet detected
    • A hydraulic fault not yet detected

    What you can do

    1. 1Read and clear the code, then road test in sixth gear to see whether it returns
    2. 2If you have a diagnostic tool: activate the solenoids that belong to 6th gear in the tool's test and listen for clicks
    3. 3Have a workshop check the connectors and wiring to the 6th gear solenoids, and the oil quality and level
    4. 4If no fault is found there, have a workshop look at the valve and the transmission's mechanics

    Symptoms you may notice4

    • The emissions warning lamp (MIL) and the general warning lamp come on
    • Abnormal slipping gear changes
    • Gear changes do not happen
    • Red text message and warning symbol in the display

    What the fault can affect1

    • The control module controls the transmission with an auxiliary program

General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
