What does this fault code mean?
The transmission disengages unexpectedly and goes into neutral. The linear pressure solenoids control the system pressure to the clutches used for gear changes, and when the control module detects a fault, the transmission goes into neutral.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance or oxidation in connectors or connections
- One or more clutches or brakes in the transmission are worn or damaged
- One of the linear pressure solenoids is damaged
- Poor quality transmission fluid
- Fault inside the transmission control system, or a mechanical fault in the transmission
- Fault inside the transmission control module (TCM)
What you can do
- 1First read all codes: if other transmission codes are present, deal with them first, since they may be the root fault
- 2Clear the code and road test to see whether the gears stay engaged
- 3Have a workshop check the transmission fluid quality and level, and the linear pressure solenoids' connectors and wiring
- 4If the fault remains, have a workshop look into the transmission's mechanics and the control module
Symptoms you may notice4
- Yellow warning symbol and text message in the display
- The car may feel underpowered
- The engine stalls when a gear is engaged from idle, or when the car slows down
- No automatic gear change, or no forward or reverse movement in gear
What the fault can affect1
- The transmission disengages and goes into neutral
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
