What does this fault code mean?
Solenoids S1 and S2 control the hydraulics when 1st gear is engaged and during engine braking. The fault comes from solenoid S2 possibly having stuck in the on position, and the wheels may lock when the car downshifts from 4th to 3rd gear.
Possible causes
- Solenoid S2 stuck in the on position
- Hydraulic fault in the transmission
- Connector or circuit board damaged or dirty
- Damaged solenoid
- Damaged transmission control module (TCM)
What you can do
- 1If the wheels lock up on the 4th-to-3rd downshift, have a workshop check the fault
- 2Read and clear the code, then road test to see whether it returns
- 3Have a workshop inspect the solenoid connector and circuit board for oxidation and dirt, and check the hydraulics
- 4If no fault is found, have a workshop replace the mechatronic unit
Symptoms you may notice5
- Yellow warning symbol and text message in the display
- The malfunction indicator lamp (Check engine) comes on or behaves abnormally
- The general warning lamp comes on
- Noise from the transmission
- Gear changes are harsh or jerky
What the fault can affect1
- The transmission is controlled by an auxiliary program
