What does this fault code mean?
The transmission does not give the expected gear ratio for gear 8, and the deviation from the calculated ratio is too large. The code is general and does not say which type of fault is behind it. The control module compares the transmission's input and output speeds, and the code is set when the deviation becomes too large while driving in gear 8.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance, oxidation or a loose connection in the connectors to linear pressure solenoids SLT, SL2 and SL5
- Linear pressure solenoids that are stuck or damaged
- Fault inside the transmission controller (TCM)
- Internal fault in the transmission control system
- Mechanical faults in the transmission
What you can do
- 1Read the fault codes and note the other codes from the transmission before you clear them.
- 2Fix any other transmission fault codes first, as they may be the reason this code was set.
- 3Check that the connectors at the transmission are secure and not corroded.
- 4Use a multimeter to check that the wiring to the solenoids has no break and no short to ground.
- 5If you have a diagnostic tool: compare the input and output speeds in live data during acceleration up to gear 8 and check whether the shifting becomes irregular.
- 6Have a workshop check the linear pressure solenoids and, if they are undamaged, the transmission mechanically.
Symptoms you may notice5
- Warning symbol and message in the display
- The check engine lamp lights up or behaves abnormally
- The car lacks power
- Gear changes are harsh or jerky, happen too early, too late or too often, or take a long time
- The automatic does not shift, or the car does not move forward or backward in the selected gear
What the fault can affect3
- The control module blocks gears that are not available
- Transmission adaptation and the neutral control function are blocked
- Automatic engine start and stop is switched off
