What does this fault code mean?
The GSM and the TCM send messages to each other over the LIN network. The code is set when the sync character in a received message does not match the one that was sent. The fault can come from interference on the LIN wire, and manual gear changes may then fail.
Possible causes
- Interference on the LIN wire linking the selector module (GSM) and the TCM
- Very brief short circuits or breaks on the LIN wire
What you can do
- 1If you have a diagnostic tool: press the brake, move the selector to M and check that the status changes in live data.
- 2Inspect the LIN wire for chafing, loose connectors and corrosion, especially where it runs to the selector.
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the wire to the selector has no break and no short to ground or plus.
- 4If the selector position does not update after these checks, have a workshop replace the gear selector control module (GSM).
