What does this fault code mean?
The transmission control module (TCM) sends messages to the gear selector control module (GSM), which should reply but does not. The code is set when the GSM fails to answer a message from the TCM. The fault may come from interference on the LIN wire, such as very short, irregular short circuits or breaks.
Possible causes
- Disturbances on the LIN wire between the selector and the TCM
- Very short, irregular short circuits or breaks on the LIN wire
What you can do
- 1If you have a diagnostic tool: press the brake, move the selector to M and check that the status changes in live data.
- 2Inspect the LIN wire for chafing, loose connections and corrosion, especially at the selector.
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the wire to the selector has good contact at both ends.
- 4If no fault is found in the wire, have a workshop check the gear selector control module (GSM).
