What does this fault code mean?
The supply voltage to the gear selector control module (GSM) is too low, and the code is set. The GSM handles the parking lock, manual shifting and the selected-gear display, so these can also be affected. The cause may be a supply wire shorted to ground, poor connector contact, or an internal fault in the GSM or the transmission control module (TCM).
Possible causes
- Contact resistance in connectors
- The supply wire is shorted to ground
- Fault inside the transmission controller (TCM)
- Contact resistance, oxidation or a loose connection at the connector or joint on the selector control module (GSM)
- Internal fault in the gear selector control module (GSM)
What you can do
- 1If you have a diagnostic tool: press the brake, move the selector to manual mode and check that the status changes in live data.
- 2Use a multimeter to check that the supply wire to the selector is not shorted to ground (the body).
- 3Inspect the wire for chafing or damage where it may have come into contact with ground.
- 4Check the selector connector for oxidation and loose contacts.
- 5Have a workshop check the transmission control module (TCM) and the selector control module (GSM) if the wire is in order.
