What does this fault code mean?
The code is event controlled and does not in itself mean the control module is faulty. The control module compares the transmission's gear ratio with the expected gear, and the code is set when the ratio for the selected gear is close to that of another gear. This suggests that a clutch or brake is engaged incorrectly.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance, oxidation or a loose connection in connectors and joints
- Poor transmission fluid quality
- One or more of clutches C1, C2, C3 and C4 and/or brakes B1 and B2 are worn or damaged
- One of the linear pressure solenoids is damaged
- Fault inside the transmission controller (TCM) or in the transmission control system
- Mechanical fault in the transmission
What you can do
- 1Read the fault codes and note the other codes from the transmission before you clear them.
- 2Check that the connectors at the transmission are secure and not corroded.
- 3Have a workshop check the transmission fluid quality, as poor fluid is a possible cause.
- 4Have a workshop check the clutches, brakes and linear pressure solenoids, as wear or damage there can cause the code.
- 5If the other checks show no fault, have a workshop check the transmission mechanically.
Symptoms you may notice4
- Gear changes happen too early, too late or too often
- Gear changes take a long time
- Gear changes are harsh or jerky
- The automatic engine start and stop function does not work
What the fault can affect1
- The control module blocks gears that are not available
