What does this fault code mean?
The code concerns the transmission's oil temperature sensor, which sends a signal to the transmission control module (TCM). It is set when the transmission has been under very hard load for a long time, which can wear out the oil.
Possible causes
- The signal wire is shorted to ground
- The transmission oil temperature sensor is not working
- The transmission has been under very hard load and high ambient temperature
What you can do
- 1If you have a diagnostic tool: read the transmission oil temperature in live data and check that it seems reasonable.
- 2Use a multimeter to check that the signal wire to the oil temperature sensor is not shorted to ground (the body).
- 3Have a workshop change the transmission oil and test drive the car, as the code is probably caused by hard load and high ambient temperature.
- 4If the wire is in order, have a workshop check the oil temperature sensor.
- 5If the fault remains after the test drive, have a workshop check the transmission control system.
Symptoms you may notice2
- The general warning lamp is lit
- Yellow warning symbol and message in the display
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
