What does this fault code mean?
The code concerns the P position shift-lock solenoid, which is controlled by the gear selector control module (GSM). It is set when too much current flows through the solenoid while its output is active. The gear lever can then be hard or impossible to move.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance in connections
- Signal wire shorted to ground
- The P position shift-lock solenoid is not working
- Internal fault in the gear selector control module (GSM)
What you can do
- 1With the car stationary: try to move the selector from P without pressing the brake. It should not move.
- 2With the brake pressed, the selector should move. If it still sticks, make a note for the workshop.
- 3Check the wire to the solenoid for a short to ground.
- 4Use a multimeter to check that the wire is not shorted to ground (the body).
- 5Have a workshop measure the P position shift-lock solenoid and replace it if it is faulty.
Symptoms you may notice5
- The eco lamp lights up
- The general warning lamp is lit
- The selector cannot be moved
- Yellow warning symbol and message in the display
- The gear lever is hard or impossible to move
