What does this fault code mean?
The code concerns the signal from the oil temperature sensor, which the transmission control module (TCM) uses for temperature-controlled lock-up and for switching to the high-temperature program. It is set when the signal is outside the permitted range. As the signal falls when the oil temperature rises, an abnormal value can come from the sensor or its connection.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance, oxidation or a loose connection in connectors and joints
- Damaged oil temperature sensor
- Fault inside the transmission controller (TCM)
What you can do
- 1If you have a diagnostic tool: read the oil temperature in live data and see whether the value changes while the car is driven.
- 2Check that the connectors at the transmission are secure and not corroded.
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the wire to the oil temperature sensor has no break and is not shorted to ground.
- 4Have a workshop check the oil temperature sensor and, if it is fault-free, the transmission control module (TCM).
Symptoms you may notice5
- The check engine lamp lights up or behaves abnormally
- Lock-up does not work
- Harsh or jerky gear changes
- Gear changes take too long
- Gear changes happen too early, too late or too often
What the fault can affect3
- Adaptation and the neutral control function are blocked
- The slipping lock-up function is blocked
- Automatic engine start and stop is switched off
