What does this fault code mean?
Solenoid SHSS1 controls the shifts for the odd gears, and the transmission control module (TCM) drives it through a power stage. The solenoid sits in the transmission's mechatronic unit. The code is set when the power stage for the solenoid has an open circuit, and gear changes for the odd gears can then be affected.
Possible causes
- Connector or circuit board is damaged or dirty
- Damaged solenoid
- Damaged transmission control module (TCM)
What you can do
- 1Check the connectors at the transmission for oxidation, loose connections and dirt.
- 2Have a workshop check the transmission oil level and look for leaks.
- 3If you have a diagnostic tool: read the fault codes and check whether any other code is stored in the transmission.
- 4Have a workshop open the transmission control system and inspect the solenoid for oxidation, dirt and metal deposits.
- 5If no fault is found, have a workshop replace the mechatronic unit.

- Yellow warning symbol and message in the display
- Harsh or jerky gear changes
- Gear changes happen too early, too late or too often
- No movement forward or backward with a gear selected
